General Membership Meeting
June 13, 2006

President Niland called meeting to order
at 1:15 p.m.
SPEAKER – Gordon Lambert –
Chief of Operations for Oakland County
Community & Home Improvement Programs
Mr. Lambert along with Lon Shook explained
the programs available through Oakland County.
1) Community Development Block Grant
2) Home Chore Grant
3) Loan Program
Mr. Shook indicated the loans are 100%
deferred until the property is sold. There is a lien placed
on the property and the maximum loan amount is $18,000.
These funds are used to make homes decent, safe and sanitary
in accordance with Section 8 guidelines. The program is
federally funded.
Motion by Member Haluska, supported by
Member Penn to approve the minutes of the May 9, 2006 meeting.
Motion Carried.
TREASURER’S
REPORT
Treasurer Martin reported we have $12,259.19 in our checking
account and $19,647.70 I our savings account. She indicated
she reached Kathy Phillips, who had misplaced the check
we sent on behalf of her husband. A new check was issued.
Motion by Member Altman, supported by
Member Haluska, to accept the Treasurer’s report.
Motion Carried.
OLD BUSINESS
President Niland indicated we need to finalize the scholarship
program. She indicated the Board has recommended a total
amount of $2,000 per year to be awarded for scholarships.
Motion by Member Smolen, supported by
Member Underhill, to authorize the amount of $2,000 to be
paid per year in scholarships. Motion Carried.
President Niland indicated the applications
would be accepted from February 1st through May 1st with
the scholarships being awarded at the June meeting. Applicants
must also be a Michigan resident at the time of application.
She indicated the applications would be reviewed anonymously.
She requested three volunteers that would be willing to
review the scholarship applications. She indicated these
three persons could not be applying for a scholarship or
have a family member that was applying for a scholarship.
Members Brenda Smolen, Alan Amolsch and Kathy Pumphrey volunteered.
NEW BUSINESS
President Niland indicated the board had recommended authorizing
fees for payment for our October Speaker, who will be speaking
about the occult and signs to recognize. Fees will be between
$1200 and $1500 for the day.
Motion by Member Penn, supported by Member
Schuler to authorize payment for the October speaker. Motion
Carried.
The 50/50 winner was Chuck Altman.
The free lunch winner was Linda Hindman
